{"id":3092,"date":"2023-11-24T10:09:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-24T09:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artigianicreativi.it\/2023\/11\/24\/majolica-decorative-technique-and-lots-of-color\/"},"modified":"2023-11-24T10:09:00","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T09:09:00","slug":"majolica-decorative-technique-and-lots-of-color","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artigianicreativi.it\/en\/2023\/11\/24\/majolica-decorative-technique-and-lots-of-color\/","title":{"rendered":"Majolica: decorative technique and lots of color!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Technically speaking, majolica is everything in the ceramic world that is fired at least twice.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The object, which will then be decorated, is forged by hand from<strong>clay<\/strong>, and can be worked on a potter&#8217;s wheel or by applying the ancient &#8220;<strong>lucignolo<\/strong>&#8221; <strong>technique<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The execution of this process starts with assembling small clay tubes together, placed side by side, until the conceived and designed shape is defined. With clay, one can then also model <strong>full-length sculptures or bas-reliefs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Very important is the <strong>drying<\/strong> stage, which must be strictly <strong>slow<\/strong> so as to avoid cracking. In fact, only when the object is perfectly dry can it be baked for the first time, at a temperature of about 940\u00b0C. The product obtained from this first baking is <strong>the cookie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At this point one can proceed with <strong>glazing<\/strong>, using <strong>immersion or spray techniques<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The artifact can then be decorated and then <strong>fired<\/strong> again, for <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>second time<\/strong>, at a lower temperature than the previous one of 20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>It is at this stage that <strong>colors<\/strong> explode in all their <strong>luster and brilliance<\/strong>. Many of the hues shift, change hues and acquire light. It is a characteristic of <strong>oxides<\/strong> that, with vitrification due to <strong>firing<\/strong>, regain their original color.<\/p>\n<p>And this is the most amazing part of <strong>decorating on majolica<\/strong>: seeing a decorative work change, delicate and opaque during execution, and then illuminated with an <strong>extraordinary brilliance after firing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Technically speaking, majolica is everything in the ceramic world that is fired at least twice.
